The Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants has awarded Marshall Gunn, Jr. with the Outstanding Discussion Leader certificate for 2012. Mr. Gunn received the award for his work with the FICPA in presenting Continuing Professional Education courses for other CPAs in Florida. The award is based on evaluation scores from the CPE participants. It is a significant honor for both Marshall and the GunnChamberlain family.
“Education is one of the most important things we do.” says Gunn. This is a sentiment he lives out both for the benefit of the professional staff and our clients. May 1st marked the last “First Wednesdays” seminar of the 2012-2013 season, which is another avenue of education for professionals sponsored by GunnChamberlain, P.L. The events provide an atmosphere to network, as well as listen to presentations by professionals with expertise in various fields. These are not sales pitches; but they are informative sessions about topics like labor laws, internet security, how to sell your business, and disaster recovery. They are “lifestyle seminars” that help everyday people understand complex topics that are relevant to them. The response to First Wednesdays has been overwhelmingly positive (we submit the free lunches probably don’t hurt its reputation).
Coming out of tax season, the professionals at GunnChamberlain, P.L. are preparing for an off season filled with tax planning, retirement and financial planning, business consulting–and maybe a vacation or two! There is plenty of confusion out there still about the tax law changes from January, the implications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and what might be next for our income tax laws. That is why education truly is one of the most important things that we do. For Marshall, and by extension the firm as a whole, to be recognized for excellence in education is a significant honor that is not taken lightly.
