The partnership of Gunn and Chamberlain came together many years ago in order to do great work for clients. What we learned along the way is that the only way we can accomplish that goal is with great people who work at GunnChamberlain. We’ve been recognized numerous times as a best place to work—both locally by the Jacksonville Business Journal, and nationally by Accounting Today. Accounting Today also included us on their annual list of Best Firms for Women. While these awards consider the tangible benefits employers offer, they also look deeply into the company’s culture. In many organizations, culture means a set of values on the website. We certainly have those, but we know how important it is to recruit and retain a team that can live those values every day.
Considering the recent changes in our world, we took another look at our culture. Is it still reflecting our core values? Are we still creating a best place to work when our team is working remotely and various personal needs are running higher than usual? We asked our team what it’s like to work at GunnChamberlain. Here’s what they said:
“GunnChamberlain says Family First, and they really mean it. A lot of companies easily say that, but GC’s actions prove otherwise. This firm truly supports you even in the most tragic of times. I love my firm!”
—Cindy Monk, Cloud Accounting Specialist
“One word: Opportunity. As a woman of color in a male-dominated industry, I’ve found that GC is a best place to work because they provide open-handed opportunity. Unlike others in the field, GC does not have a rigid promotion structure. Walking in the door, you are greeted with generous compensation and benefits. Your career and compensation will match your efforts. There is no waiting for an open seat at the table—all you have to do is pull up a chair. The sky is the limit here.”
—Crystal Griffin, Tax Associate
“It’s great to be empowered and trusted—for instance, being able to work on a variety of different projects for one client. It creates a situation where someone who may be good at helping clients in one particular way can expand that ability whenever the need arises (which is especially important given the current environment we are in).”
—Shawn Retherford, Tax Manager
“The people. There are obviously other good work environments out there. But it’s sort of like my family. There are other good families out there, but mine is my favorite. We have a lot of perks, benefits, good stuff we do for the community, etc. But the one thing I couldn’t find anywhere else is the people I work with here.”
—Isaac Brohinsky, Partner
